"Many who heard him were astonished. What kind of wisdom? What mighty deeds? They took offense at him."
Welcome back to Scripture for Your Inner Outcasts. Today is February 4th, 2026, Wednesday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time. Today's guest presenter is David Saunders, a member care coordinator for Souls and Hearts' Resilient Catholics Community.
"Many who heard him were astonished. What kind of wisdom? What mighty deeds? They took offense at him." Those are pertinent excerpts from Mark six, verse two and three. Is this not the way it is with our hearts? Golly, I have an experience and bang! Some parts are thankfully astonished and other parts are offended, threatened, want to retaliate. And they are triggered. That very understandably leads to blending. And then the exiles, like fear of shame, abandoned, worthless, I am bad, etc. Pick your own. The exile or the exiles are now being poked, which in my system can happen at a hyper speed and many times a day. And so the exile is triggered, perhaps even close to trying to jailbreak. That, of course, leads to blending or multiple blends, which is also common, which is still an issue for me a number of times every single day. A young man I coach says that the RCC, IFS, and this relational work that we do creates 3 to 6 inches of space for him and his parts, which is helping him very often stay in the primary emotion and healthfully relate to his parts and others. So here are a few questions for an exile.
Pick one of your own, perhaps one recently up, typically up, or one that's up right now. The following questions can be asked from the point of view of self or God, or guardian angel or other confidants. Pick one. As always, first, we want to be sure that we're asking the managers for permission. So please, may I? I will be talking directly to your exile, helping them and thus helping you exile. It appears you are expressing your burden. What would you like me to know about this? How might you be helped? How might you be relieved, safe, comforted, or even loved? I am always here for you and with you. Will you let me love you? I can be more present and help you when you contain your feelings. Can we give that a try for a short bit? The saints encourage us to return to the well of anything that is helpful, that works over and over and over again. One of my companions does the same episode with such relief and healing. He wisely returns to it often, sometimes every day for long periods of time.
For further exploration of the parts of you that carry anger, check out our sister podcast, Interior Integration for Catholics, episodes 103 to 113.
As we unite ourselves and our parts, our Lady, our Mother, Untier of Knots, pray for us. Saint John the Baptist, pray for us.
