"He is like a tree planted near running water that yields its fruit in due season and whose leaves never fade. Whatever he does prospers."

Welcome back to Scripture for Your Inner Outcasts. It's February 19th, 2026, the Thursday After Ash Wednesday. Today we are joined by Bridget Adams, the member care coordinator for the Resilient Catholics Community, a lead writer and trainer on the PartsFinder Pro team and a retreat leader for Souls and Hearts.

Psalm 1 verse 3. "He is like a tree planted near running water that yields its fruit in due season and whose leaves never fade. Whatever he does prospers." As we enter into the holy and challenging liturgical season of Lent, we're given this responsorial psalm, which presents an image of a fruitful tree, a tree that has beautiful leaves, leaves that remain unfaded, a tree that yields its fruit in due season. This is a great reminder for all of our parts and for our innermost self, in due season. Our human formation work, our inner connections, and our deepening relationships with our parts, and particularly you exiled parts, this work spans a particular season in our life, or perhaps spans several seasons in our life. You exiled parts are near the running water that your innermost self can freely offer you. This is the water of courage, compassion and calm. This is the water of connection, kindness, and patience. And the hope expressed in this Psalm, that whatever you do may prosper, is spoken for you and to you forgotten, exiled parts. The due season for you to have a real place in the internal system and to contribute to the prospering is on the horizon. Your innermost self and all the parts in your system are connected, and the increased circulation or increased watering of those inner relationships will lead to beautiful fruit. It's hard to wait, and it's especially hard to wait when we feel forgotten, dismissed, or neglected when we are exiled. So this is a reminder you are part of the promise to prosper.
