178 Can You Reach Out to God?

Transcript

"You will free me from the snare they set for me, for you are my refuge... But my trust is in you, O LORD; I say, 'You are my God.' In your hands is my destiny; rescue me from the clutches of my enemies and my persecutors. Save me, O Lord, in your kindness."

Welcome back to Scripture for Your Inner Outcasts. It's March 4th, 2026, Wednesday of the Second Week of Lent. Today's guest is Lisa Barrett, a psychotherapist in private practice based in Sydney, Australia, and a member of Souls and Hearts' Resilient Catholics Community and the Formation for Formators Community.

From Psalm 31. "You will free me from the snare they set for me, for you are my refuge... But my trust is in you, O LORD; I say, 'You are my God.' In your hands is my destiny; rescue me from the clutches of my enemies and my persecutors. Save me, O Lord, in your kindness." The Psalms contain the laments of God's people in difficult situations and the expressions of their heart. In this Psalm, parts of David are feeling despair, persecuted, and are longing to be saved. Perhaps this is how you exiled parts feel too. You are not alone. There may be other parts and other voices that are louder than you. You may feel that you get drowned out by firefighters who seek vengeance, or managers who proportion blame, or try to organize things differently. But God knows the depths of your despair and persecution, how you are suffering underneath. Do you feel able to reach out to God's kindness, to put your trust in him, as David did in the Psalm? It's okay if not. Faith doesn't always come easily. Yet, if you do feel caught in the clutches of your enemies, God is available to you. He is present and listening. He is your refuge and wants to hold you and to be with you in your place of pain.

In the description of today's episode, you'll find an excellent article about having faith in God's providence. Thanks for joining us and we hope to see you again tomorrow.
