221 Exiled Parts Have a Great Capacity for Faith

Speaker 2: Welcome back to Scripture for your inner outcasts. It's April 16th, 2026, Thursday of the second week of Easter. I'll be providing the reflection for today's episode. My name is Elizabeth and I'm the producer and host of Scripture for Your Inner Outcast.
Speaker 1: Today, I'd like to reflect on the Alleluia verse from today's mass, which is John chapter 20, verse 29. Do you believe in me, Thomas? Because you have seen me, says the Lord. Blessed are those who have not seen but still believe. In Sunday's episode of this podcast, Peter and Doctor Jerry discussed the role of Thomas in the system of the Apostles. He is, of course, Thomas the Doubter. In that episode, they spoke about who is the doubter in your own internal system? So today I'd like to speak about the part or the parts of you who have not seen but still believe, as this verse says, and believing but not seeing is another way of saying faith or having faith. So another way of reading this line is, blessed are those who have faith. Blessed are those who have not seen but still believe. Blessed are those who have faith. Now in my own life, I recently had my first baby and taking care of him and learning how to take care of him has been a great exercise in faith for me, because he gives a good example of what it means to have faith. It strikes me that he has total faith in his parents because so many things just happen to him that are beyond his control.
Speaker 1: We put him in the car seat. We put him in the car. He goes somewhere. He doesn't know where he's going or why he's going. Then he arrives somewhere and he's taken out and we take him out of the car seat and something is happening, or the doctor or we're visiting somebody, or we're at the grocery store and he's totally calm. And oftentimes when we put my baby in the car seat, we will put a little flap over him so that the sun doesn't get into his eyes. We'll cover up his car seat, so it would be hard for him to look out the window regardless. But he really cannot see. He cannot see where he's going. So taking that back to the verse from today, blessed are those who have not seen but still believe. It strikes me so sweet and so innocent and so filled with faith that my baby, every time we take him in the car, he cannot see what's happening, but he believes that he's safe and he feels that he's safe. And he has faith that his parents have his best interest for him.
Speaker 1: And so to relate this idea to the concept of exile parts in your internal family system for you managers who are listening, if it feels safe to filter this message down to your exiles. I'd like to speak to the exiles listening to this podcast right now, because you exiles, more likely than not, you are very young. You might even be the age of a baby. You might have a great amount of faith. You might be able to believe in something without seeing it. You might be able to like a baby. Just have a faith that if you are put in a car, you will be safe and you will end up in a different place and it will all be good and it will all be safe. And that ability in you to have faith. To believe without seeing. That is a real gift, and that ability can orient you and can help orient your entire internal family system towards heaven and towards God. And perhaps your ability to have faith in things that you can't see is a great gift that you can contribute to your innermost self, to your system, and to the other parts that you encounter.
