Speaker 1: Hey there. I'm glad to be with you today on this Monday of the third week of Easter. You know, as I'm reading this gospel passage with John and the people had just experienced the feeding of the 5000. And I'm noticing that the people, the crowd, they're working really hard. They're crossing the sea. They're their searching. They find boats and they row them. They're relentless in their pursuit. Jesus names what is underneath all that striving? He says, you are looking for me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate the loaves and were filled. So in if's language, this crowd is showing up as managers, firefighters. They're running on full power, organizing the whole system around one goal. Let's get fed again. Let's get that feeling back. Don't let the fullness disappear. But beneath those busy searching parts is something more tender. The exile underneath the crowd. Striving is the part of us that learned early. That fullness never lasts. The good things get taken away. That we have to chase what nourishes us because it will not stay, and that we are not worthy to be fed unless we work for it. This is a trauma formed belief, and many of us carry this in our bones, perhaps even from childhood. That love was conditional nourishment, whether it's emotional, spiritual, or physical, was unpredictable. And so a young, exiled part learned to search frantically rather than to trust truly. So is there a part of you that chases spiritual experiences, connections, comforts? Not from curiosity, but from a fear that if you stop moving, the emptiness will swallow you. Can you find that part right now? How does it feel? What does it believe about whether it deserves to simply be fed without earning it? Jesus is not shaming the crowd's hunger. He is naming it with love and pointing towards something that the exile needs to hear. The Son of Man will give you the food that endures. Did you hear that? Give not sell it. Not reward it. Not ration it based on performance. Give. This is the word that can begin to reach the exile who learned that nourishment must always be chased or earned.
