Scripture for Your Inner Outcasts

Speaker 1: And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink, because he is a disciple. Amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.

Speaker 2: Welcome to Scripture for your inner outcasts. Today is July 13th, 2026, Monday of the 15th week in Ordinary Time. Today we're joined by clinical psychologist Doctor Peter Malinoski, who is also the co-founder of our parent organization, Souls and Hearts.

Speaker 1: Listeners to Scripture for Inner Outcasts. This is Doctor Peter and I want to focus in today with all of you parts managers, firefighters, especially you exiles on Matthew chapter ten, verse 42 from our gospel, where our Lord says, and whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink, because he is a disciple. Amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward. Okay. Whoever gives a cup of cold water to one of these little ones, one of these little ones. So he's saying that whoever offers even something very small, a small act of kindness, something refreshing, some little thing to one of my little ones, one of my disciples, that one will be rewarded. Just love this language of the little ones. So he's looking at his disciples as little ones. Remember, let the little children come to me and do not hinder them. His disciples came to him. They are the little ones in his heart. They're the little ones in Jesus heart. They are the little ones in the way Jesus looks at them. Little ones. Little ones always evoke so much sympathy. Compassion, right? Who are the opposite of the little ones in Jesus experience? The opposite of little ones, I think, were the Pharisees, the scribes, the power brokers, the influential leaders, the little ones, whoever gives them a even a cup of cold water, that little gesture will not be forgotten. That little gesture will be rewarded. And what he's saying is that the little things really matter to him and that he notices, and this is what I want to get to in a well ordered internal system where the parts are working in harmony.

Speaker 1: When there is a collaboration, cooperation under the leadership and guidance of the innermost self. When that's happening, there's a lot of gift giving that happens inside. And when we are able to give to our internal littlest ones, our exiles, our former exiles, when you littlest ones are able to receive good things from your innermost self, from your other parts, it sets us up to be able to notice, to attune to, and to be able to love the little parts of other people, to be able to give not just a cup of cold water to the entirety of the person, but to actually tune in to the little one. One of the beautiful things about parts who are little, who are former exiles, but who are now in, but who are now integrated into relationship with the rest of the parts, the innermost self. Then those little ones can love and connect with little parts of others that are similar to them. They can resonate in a way that even your innermost self can't. And that other parts of you can't. There's a unique offering, a unique cup of water, if you will, that our little ones can offer to other little ones and other people. This whole hearted, loving remember, our Lord said that he wanted to be loved with our whole hearts, all of our parts. And when we can love our neighbor wholeheartedly with all of our parts, that means that we can love their parts even better. Because the music that each of our parts is bringing to our jazz band is more complete. There are no instruments missing, no instruments silenced.
