314 Does God Feel Aloof?

Speaker 1: Why, O Lord, do you stand aloof? Why hide in times of distress? Proudly the wicked harass the afflicted who are caught in the devices the wicked have contrived. Welcome back to Scripture for your inner outcasts. It's July 18th, 2026, Saturday of the 15th week in Ordinary Time. I'll be joining you for this episode. My name is Elizabeth and I'm the producer and host of this show. In today's Responsorial Psalm, we hear the desperate cry. Why, O Lord, do you stand aloof? Why hide in times of distress? Proudly the wicked harass the afflicted who are caught in the devices the wicked have contrived. You can hear the desperation here and the pain. And it occurs to me that you exiled parts who could be listening to this show right now. You might feel like the Lord is standing aloof or hiding in your time of distress. It might feel to you like God doesn't exist. Or if he does exist, that he's ignoring you entirely. And your experience of God is entirely reflective of the burdens that have been placed on you. Or you might have had encounters with who you thought was the Lord, but turned out not to be. And so I encourage you to think of this Psalm as for you. If you feel like God is aloof, that he is ignoring you. Well, the psalmist also felt that you're not alone in that feeling. We don't all have a perfect God image, meaning a God concept of who God actually is, but rather a lot of you, a lot of us think that God is somebody whom he isn't. Thanks for joining us today.
