318 Like He Did For Mary Magdalene, Jesus Calls You By Name

Speaker 1: Jesus said to her, woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for? She thought it was the gardener and said to him, sir, if you carried him away, tell me where you laid him, and I will take him. Jesus said to her, Mary. She turned and said to him in Hebrew, Rabbouni, which means teacher. Welcome back to Scripture for your inner outcasts. It's Wednesday, July 22nd, 2026, the feast of Saint Mary Magdalene. I'll be joining you for today's episode. My name is Elizabeth and I'm the producer of this show. Today is the feast of Saint Mary Magdalene, the apostle to the apostles. And what a special saint to celebrate, especially as it relates to the inner outcasts in all of our systems. She is special, of course, because she herself was literally an outcast in society in Jesus's time. As before she encountered Jesus, she was possessed by seven demons, and we can infer that she was kept far away from polite company until Jesus exorcize the demons out of her. And so in Mary Magdalene, we have such a great example of what it means to be cast out and then brought back into the fold by Jesus himself, be reintegrated in society. And, of course, in the context of internal family systems to be reintegrated back to your innermost self. So from the gospel today, we have the story of Mary discovering our resurrected Lord. And of course, she doesn't recognize him at first. Our gospel says, Jesus said to her, woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for? She thought it was the gardener and said to him, sir, if you carried him away, tell me where you laid him, and I will take him.
Speaker 1: Jesus said to her, Mary. She turned and said to him in Hebrew, Rabbouni, which means teacher. It teaches us so much about our relationship with Jesus and how he sees us. It shows us, for one, that it is possible to not recognize Jesus. You could know him intimately. You could be one of his closest disciples, and he could be standing right in front of you, and you still don't recognize him. This might be the experience of you exiled parts. You might strive to be with him. Your major parts might be very close to Jesus, but it's still possible to not recognize him. He might, for his own purposes, conceal himself from you. But then when he calls you by name, as he called Mary Magdalene by her name, that's when the recognition comes. She was seen, heard, known, and understood as she truly is by Jesus. And that's when she was able to see who he is. This tells us so much about our internal family systems. I imagine that you. Exiled parts could be searching for somebody, searching for Jesus or searching for your innermost self. And although Jesus and your innermost self could be actually standing right in front of you, you might not recognize them. But when they call you by name, when they really see you, hear you, understand you, and are attuned to you and allow you to have this felt sense. In the case of Jesus, he would allow himself to be revealed to you. That's when the recognition and the integration and the unburdening and the bringing back into the fold really happen.
