Scripture for Your Inner Outcasts

Speaker 1: You have revealed to little ones the mystery of your kingdom.

Speaker 2: You are listening to Scripture for your inner outcasts. It's September 18th, 2026, Friday of the 24th Week in Ordinary Time. Today's guest presenters Lisa Barrett, a psychotherapist based out of Sydney, Australia.

Speaker 1: Today we hear in the passage from Matthew, you have revealed to little ones the mystery of your kingdom. And this is a message for you exiled parts, ones who get criticism for being childlike or for being too young or too simple to understand. You may be feeling like there is no one there for you, that you get left out, or that you have been left completely alone. And maybe it's other parts that keep you away. But God has a message for you. He does and will listen to you. He honors you. You are precious, honored, and love to him even when everyone else doesn't recognize or value you or doesn't see your worth or wisdom. You may not know about God. Maybe you have an image of him, perhaps that he is quite far away, looking down on you from his ivory tower or what. Not interested in the likes of you has no time for lowly parts. It's too busy for you. Or perhaps that he is never satisfied with you and only looks at parts who either work hard or pray frequently, or are always responsible and sensible. Maybe you have a kind of God image of one who demands perfection, who has no room for mistakes at all, who even maybe favors the parts, who try to keep you out of sight. Or maybe you have an image of him as one who forces you to do things his way, but isn't really interested in you. However, you're the true God. Your father is not like any of these.

Speaker 1: And he promises that he will be there for you. In fact, more than that, he will reveal to you the mystery of his kingdom. You, the little ones, because he knows that you are the ones that are most able to hear in a way that nobody else can. You can understand this mystery in a way that older parts struggle with. They are sometimes trying too hard to work things out. But you are open hearted and from your heart you understand on another level what his kingdom means. He trusts that you can see and hear him in a unique way. This is the God who loves you, and he knows that you understand. His kingdom is not about rules but sincerity of heart. And he sees that in you and knows that you have a special gift that nobody else inside holds with your sensitivity, your openness, your tenderness, and your curiosity. You might get laughed at or hidden by other parts for not knowing big words, for accidentally breaking the unspoken rules of society, or perhaps for showing big emotions or being different. Yet these are the very things that God sees and loves in you. These very qualities help reveal his kingdom to others, even if they don't see it, because you have a special grace and importance in the world that nobody can take from you, no matter how belittled or far away you feel. You are the closest to God's heart and kingdom.
